History of Didsbury Park
Before it became a park, the area which Didsbury Park now occupies was a field. There's a record of the owner, William Broome, selling it along with some other property in 1758, for £5,113.
Didsbury Park was developed in the 1920s. It was one of the first municipal parks in Manchester, designed to provide a recreational space for residents. The very first municipal park in Manchester was Philips Park which was developed around 1850, and named after one of Manchester's only two MPs at that time.
There is an air-raid shelter underneath the park, presumably developed during the Second World War. Some of Didsbury's older residents can remember going down into it!
The Didsbury Civic Society were instrumental in improving and upgrading the park in later years. The Friends of Didsbury Park was formed in 2003 in order to keep the park beautiful.
